This year’s golf tournament is played in honor of Jack Thomson

This year's golf tournament was played in honor of Frank and Ronnie Teixeira

Jack Thomson, this year’s Antone Raymus Tournament honoree, has served for decades as a well-known community contributor and a giant in Manteca education. The St. Anthony’s parish, for example, has benefitted from his steady volunteerism in many ministries. As a baseball coach, his long career is prolific. Thomson coached varsity baseball for 41 years, 18 at Manteca High and 23 at Sierra. His teams won 607 games, thus becoming the No. 2 winningest coach in Sac-Joaquin Section history, before his retirement in 2018. It was no surprise that he was inducted to the SJS Hall of Fame in 2024 and, in 2010,  was honored as the CIF Model Coach of the Year.  More important, Thomson and wife Paula were admired as role models in how to respond to heartbreaking grief after the loss of a son. Today, his bliss is a trip to Sierra’s Jack Thomson Stadium to watch his son Travis coach the Timberwolves.
